But here’s the thing.
We’ve completed hundreds of tub and shower projects over the years… and fixed plenty of one-day installs that didn’t hold up.
To finish a bathroom in 12 hours, something has to give. Either the mortar doesn’t get time to cure, or the installer skips the extra waterproofing step, or the finish work gets rushed because the crew is exhausted and just wants to go home.

Here’s something you might not know about one-day bathroom companies: They’re not remodeling your whole bathroom in one day.
They’re replacing your tub or shower. That’s it.
The flooring? Still the same. The vanity? Still the same. The lighting? You get the idea.
So what happens if you want flooring, a new vanity, or updated lighting?
You’ve got two options—and neither is great:
Option 1: They don’t do it.
Many one-day companies specialize exclusively in the wet area. They don’t touch flooring, vanities, painting, or electrical work. If you want those updates, you’re stuck hiring a separate contractor to come in later—or doing it yourself.
This means coordinating two different companies, dealing with two timelines, and hoping the finishes match up.
Option 2: They’ll do it, but the “one-day” promise disappears.

One of the most important parts of your new shower is the one you’ll never see: what’s between the bottom of the shower base and your subfloor. This is where the difference between a solid install and a problematic one gets decided.
Typical One-Day Method: Glue The Base
One-day bathroom companies squirt a few zigzag lines of construction adhesive (or expanding foam) onto your subfloor. They drop the acrylic shower base on top, stand on it for a minute or two while it sets, and move on.
The problem? Some acrylic shower bases are flexible. When you stick a flexible material to a solid floor using only thin strips of glue, you create air pockets underneath.
What this feels like:
You step into the shower and the floor feels… squishy. Bouncy. Like a motel shower. That “give” you feel under your feet? That’s the base flexing down to meet the subfloor through those air gaps.
What this does to your drain:
Your shower drain is rigid—it’s hard-piped into your waste line and doesn’t move. But the floor around it is bouncing up and down every time you step in.

Our Method: A Complete Mortar Bed Foundation
For every shower or tub we install, we bring heavy-duty mortar, mix it thick, and pour a full bed onto your subfloor. We use enough to completely fill every void beneath the base.
We set the shower base into the wet concrete. We don’t move to the next step until the mortar is fully set. No weight on the base. No tile work. No rushing ahead because we’re on a deadline.
What happens while it sets:
The mortar hardens into stone. As it does, it fills every single void between your subfloor and the shower base. It creates a custom-molded, rock-solid foundation with 100% support across the entire surface.

Typical One-Day Method: Green Board & Wood Chips
It’s common for one-day bath companies to install green board (moisture-resistant drywall) or standard OSB (compressed wood chips) behind your shower walls.
The problem? Both materials are made of paper and wood. They resist moisture better than regular drywall, but if water ever gets behind your wall panels, you’re relying on paper and wood chips to protect your home.
What happens when water reaches it:
Green board and OSB act like a sponge. The paper facing absorbs water. The wood fibers swell and expand.
What this does to your walls:
As the backing swells, it pushes your wall panels away from the studs. Your shower walls start to bow out. Seams crack. Panels pull loose.
The result? By the time you notice your walls bulging or separating, the materials behind them have been saturating for months. The damage is already done.

Now, water shouldn’t ever reach the backing if everything’s installed correctly. But if a seal fails, or a pipe sweats inside the wall, the moisture hits material that’s designed to shed water—not absorb it.

3. The Seams: Where Water Actually Gets In
Even the best backing material can’t save you if water is constantly seeping behind it. And the most common entry point? The corners and seams where your wall panels meet the shower base. This is where most showers eventually fail.
Typical One-Day Method: A Single Bead Of Caulk
When a one-day crew installs the wall panels, they typically run a bead of silicone caulk along every seam—where the walls meet the base, and where the walls meet each other in the corners. That single line of caulk is the only thing stopping water from getting behind your walls.
The problem? Silicone isn’t immortal. It shrinks as it cures. It hardens over time. Harsh cleaners can degrade it. Your house settling can pull it apart slightly.
What happens when it fails:
That bead of caulk develops a small gap—maybe just a hairline crack you’d never notice. But every time you shower, water seeps through that gap and travels behind the wall panel.
What this does to your backing:
Now your backing material is getting hit with moisture after every shower. Green board fails fast. ZIP System is designed to resist moisture and protect the structure if a seal ever fails. But no backing material should live underwater.
Our Method: The Internal Seal
Before we install your visible wall panels, we create a second waterproof barrier at every corner and seam.
We apply high-bond adhesive to the substrate and corner reinforcement channels. We create a watertight seal behind where the wall panels will go. Then—and this is important—we install the panels and apply the visible surface caulk on top of it.

What this means:
You now have two independent seals. The visible caulk everyone can see, and an internal barrier no one knows is there.
What happens if the surface caulk ages:

Typical One-Day Method: The Midnight Sprint
Here’s what happens in a typical one-day install: The crew arrives at 7 or 8 AM and spends the next 10 hours doing heavy demolition, hauling cast iron tubs down stairs, running plumbing connections, and pouring materials. By the time they get to the finish work—cutting trim, applying silicone, installing fixtures—it’s 7, 8, or 9 PM.
The problem? The most visible, delicate part of the job happens when the crew is exhausted and wants to go home.
What this looks like:
The caulk gun wavers because hands are tired. The bead comes out uneven or too thick. A piece of trim gets cut slightly crooked, but it gets installed anyway because no one wants to haul the saw back out and make another cut at 9 PM.
What you notice:
The last 10% of the work represents 90% of what you see every single day. You don’t see the plumbing connections inside your walls. You see the corner seams. The caulk lines. The trim cuts.
The result? In a one-day install, the part that matters most visually gets the least focus and energy. The work is functional—it’ll hold water. But it doesn’t look as clean as it should.
Our Method: The Fresh-Eyes Finish
We schedule every bathroom for a minimum of two days.
- Day 1 is for structure. We do the heavy lifting—demo, plumbing, pouring the 60-pound mortar bed, setting the base.
- Day 2 is for finish work. Our crew returns the next morning, rested and working in natural daylight. This is when we install walls, accessories, and the door… then apply the finishing touches with silicone.
- Sometimes there’s a Day 3. This typically happens when a plumbing inspection is required, which is common in Allegheny County. When the city requires an inspection, we build that time into the schedule rather than rushing or cutting corners.
Bottom line: We don’t force everything into two days if the job or the jurisdiction requires more time. Period.

The installers working on your caulk lines and trim cuts aren’t the same crew that’s been hauling debris all day. They’re fresh, focused, and able to give the details the attention they deserve.

You’re going to look at those corner joints every morning for the next 20 years. Those caulk lines should look crisp and professional. By reserving an entire day for finish work, we make sure the part you see matches the quality of the work you don’t.
